On the positive side, I knew the symptoms immediately this time and called the doctor for a refill on the meds. I paid Rs. 200 or $5.00 US for 5 prescriptions. Things seem to be under control this time and I should be ready for work tomorrow and more importantly not losing weight and tied to my room over the weekend "again".
Mike and I were Key Note speakers for a bank sponsored Lunch & Learn session yesterday and had a great time delivering the international message for the bank. Outside of our technical roles here, we really feel like ambassadors for the bank and are getting a kick out of India.
I hope co-workers reading my blog are picking that up and gaining a good insight into the challenges as well as the benefits of an assignment like this.
Shoot me an email or two if you have any questions or comments. It's always nice to hear from the states.

( 3 / 15 )I don't mean home sick though I do miss my family. Something about India and my immune system just don't agree. I had travelers sickness last week and couldn't stop visiting the facilities. Since taking extremely stong medicine to stop that, I haven't been able to use the restroom much if at all. For the last few days, I've felt like a backed up sewage system. As gross as that sounds "and feels", I don't feel nausious or out of sorts, just "very" frustrated.
Tonight however (Sunday night), I've been visting the Porcelin deity more times than I care to mention. We have an extremely busy 2 weeks planned so hopefully this will be short lived.
This weekend was mostly a wash on anything fun. I enjoy Mike's company a lot so just getting out of the hotel is fun enough. We visted some tombs on Sunday morning before I started feeling weird. He's written a great blog entry for it.
Check it out here: Mike's Blog.

( 3 / 15 )Today Mike and I went out into the city for a shopping run. The intention was nothing more than to see things we hadn’t before. We accomplished this but I feel compelled to share a neat observation about Indian culture.
I’ve mentioned before that India is a much more humble and respectful culture than the United States however, there is one very interesting aspect US travelers are not prepared for when they arrive. India has a completely different sense of Personal Space. Since I arrived in India I’ve noticed this many times and in many ways but today, I experienced it myself. People talk much closer to one another than we do in the US. Men hold hands when they walk and often talk just inches away from each other.
Today, Mike and I thought we would check out the iMAX theatre here and see what was playing. Unfortunately, unlike the US, you can’t just walk up and see a movie as each movie has one play time per day and we were way out of time for anything that would make sense to us. There was a McDonalds at the theatre so we decided to grab lunch.
While sitting down, the staff walked up to our table, picked up the movie guide Mike had sitting next to his plate and started reading the show times while standing right next to me. We just smiled as we knew it was innocent but we both grinned at each other recognizing the cultural difference and respecting it.
Here are some pics I tried to subtly snap while it was happening. There not the best as I tried to be sneaky so I wouldn’t have to explain.
The really funny thing that followed next was the two female employee’s deciding to tell us that all the men in the restaurant were married but they weren’t… Ha-Ha! They were in their early 20s and had no idea how right they were… ALL the men “including US” ARE married :)
It was cute and made our day. Their manager quickly came over and shuffled them back to work.

( 2.8 / 12 )We saw the sun yesterday for only the 2nd time in 45 days. There’s a lot you take for granted growing up in California and the weather is sure one of them. We’ve been working so many hours that simple things like weather are not a daily concern however, Mike and I walked outside the Bank building this evening and it was like hitting an invisible wall. It was 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside and really caught be off guard. It brought me back home for a minute and distracted me. California stays hot and sunny through September and warm with partly cloudy until the middle to end of October in general. Every day here has been tropical with no sun for almost 2 months.
I’m looking forward to being able to get out of the Hotel this weekend for the first time in 2 weeks. My health is almost back to normal so I plan to do a little shopping this weekend and maybe catch a movie or track down some authentic Indian Telugu dancing. The dancing here is so energetic and everyone is always having fun when people dance. It's always a fun show.
Well, it's already cloudy again this morning but I'm told the sun will start shining more as we approach October. I'll update again Saturday and hopefully have a good story or two with some pictures to share.

( 2.9 / 11 )My apologies for the lack of recent updates. I started to feel nauseous on Tuesday the 4th and I've been very sick since Thursday the 6th. I think I've lost more than 10 pounds in 4 days and much of my appetite is gone as well. Now, I can say India has changed me both spiritually and physically :)
Since my last update, Mike, Divium and I went to the Hyderabad Zoo. My expectations were low as we drove through old parts of town and through very impoverished areas. Even on arrival I still had doubts about paying the 50 cent entry fee... I was pleasantly surprised to find a completely world class zoo! This was by far the best zoo I've ever been too and we paid another $2 dollars for an open door van tour through places you would only expect to see foot traffic. You can see snaps from the zoo in my Photo Album link (right side menu).
I've also added many new snaps from places we've shopped in the last 2 weeks. There are some great deals here. You can purchase so many beautiful metal bangles for $1.00 US each and many wonderfully colorful Sari dresses & Salwar suits for $8.00 - $10.00 US. If you’re looking for a great gift for your significant other or just something new and unique for yourself, take a look at this high-end shop.
Singhanias.in
This is not my favorite shop "I really like Elahe" however, this one happens to have a website and it's done very well. Remember Rupees run about 40 to the US dollar so most high-end “complete” outfits will run about $100.00 US.
It's been difficult for me to write updates lately as I've been working 12-14 hours a day and then I lost the entire weekend to this illness. I'm told I have a severe case of traveler’s sickness and that the 5 different medications I’m on are trying to kill a Bacteria and a Protozoa. I'm still not sure that I'm on the mend but things are looking and feeling better today than yesterday. Hopefully I’ll be back to work in the morning.
